Abstract:

This study investigated the effect of EDTA as a HOLE SCAVENGER on accelerating the photocatalytic decolorization of direct blue 71 as a non-degradable model pollutant with nano TiO2 powder immobilized on a cementitious bed. For this purpose, 75 mg/L of the dye was decolorized in 75 minutes with 0.03 M of EDTA at a pH level of 6 and under irradiation produced by a 60-W UV-C lamp. This is while decolorization under identical conditions but in the absence of EDTA had been accomplished in 225 minutes. The experiment, therefore, confirmed the accelerating effect of the SCAVENGER on decolorization. The kinetics of the photocatalytic process with EDTA followed a first order reaction with a constant rate of 0.05 min-1, which is 2.5 times faster than the process without EDTA.

Abstract:

TODAY, AZOIC DYES ARE A GROUP OF CARCINOGENIC AROMATIC COMPOUNDS WHICH NEED TO BE TREATED WITH EFFICIENT PROCESSES LIKE PHOTOCATALYSIS WITH NANO TIO2 BEFORE DISCHARGING TO THE ENVIRONMENT [1]. THIS PROCESS COULD BE PROMOTED IN THE PERFORMANCE AND EFFICIENCY WITH ASSISTANCE OF EXTRA AUXILIARY METHODS SUCH AS APPLICATION OF SCAVENGERS WHICH ARE SOME MINERAL OR ORGANIC CHEMICAL COMPOUNDS WITH DIFFERENT EFFECTIVE ROLES IN THE PROCESS [2]. IN THIS RESEARCH, THE IMMOBILIZED PHOTOCATALYTIC DECOLORIZATION OF DIRECT BLUE 71 WITH NANO TIO2 POWDER WAS INVESTIGATED IN THE PRESENCE OF EDTA AS A HOLE SCAVENGER.75 MG/L DYE WAS DECOLORIZED IN 225 AND 75 MINUTES WITH 0 AND 0.03 M EDTA AND 40 GR/M2 TIO2 IN PH 6 UNDER 60 W UVC IRRADIATION. THEREFORE, THE ACCELERATING EFFECT OF THIS SCAVENGER WAS PROVED.

Abstract:

Energy harvesting from ambient vibrations using piezoelectric cantilevers is one of the most popular mechanisms for producing electrical energy. Recently, efforts have been made to improve the performance of energy harvesters. The output voltage dramatically depends on the geometrical and physical parameters of these devices. In addition, improved performance is often achieved by operating at or near the resonance point. So, this paper aims to reduce the natural frequency to match the environmental excitation frequency and increase the harvested energy. For this purpose, different geometrical and physical parameters are studied to determine the impact of each parameter. These parameters include the length, thickness, density, and Young’s modulus of each layer. The beam is considered a unimorph cantilever with rectangular configuration and the study is performed using COMSOL Multiphysics software. The results are compared with those obtained by an analytical approach. The results show that changing the parameters made the natural frequency of the system vary in the range of 20 Hz to 200 Hz and increased the output voltage up to 20 V.

Abstract:

The genus Stachys is noticed due to its vast distribution in the world and reports of its different pharmacologic effects and traditional medicine applications. Some of the species of this genus are known as important antioxidants. In this studyantioxidant effect and total phenolic content of nine Stachys species were investigated for the first time. The Methanolic extracts of the aerial parts of nine Stachys species: S. persica Gmel., S. fruticulosa M. B., S. laxa Boiss. & Buhse., S. inflata Benth., S. turcomanica Trautv., S. subaphylla Rech. F., S. setifera C. A. Mey., S.byzantina C. Koch and S.trinervis Aitch. & Hemsl. were investigated on their antioxidant activity and total phenolic content. They were determined by using FRAP and Folin-Ciocalteu assays respectively. S. persica Gmel., S. fruticulosa M. B. had the highest antioxidant activity (61.42mmol/100g, 62.02mmol/100g) and total phenolic content (3294.96mg/100g, 4450.36mg/100g) among these nine species. There was a direct correlation between total phenol and antioxidant activity (R2=0.9446) which can indicates that polyphenols are the main antioxidants.

Abstract:

The oxidative stress causes many diseases in human, therefore antioxidants have a special position in the medicinal chemistry. Tyrosol is an important antioxidant with a plenty of biological properties. There are many strategies such as clustering single drug units in order to develop new drugs. The cluster effect can increase drug effects relative to single drug unit. Calixtyrosol is the novel cluster of tyrosol that shows a more effective antioxidant activity than single tyrosol. In fact, tyrosol can be considered as 1/4 of the cluster.Four hydroxyethyl moieties have been grafted at the upper rim of the calix [4] arene in allsyn orientation, giving novel agent in the field of antioxidant agents. Free radical scavenging tests were determined by the 2, 2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl radical in methanol for four antioxidants: calixtyrosol, tyrosol, hydroxytyrosol and 3, 5-di-tert-buty l-4-hydroxytoluene to compare their antioxidant activity. Free radical scavenging test showed that calixtyrosol has enhanced antioxidant activity in comparison to the corresponding single tyrosol unit (> 5 fold), it has even more active than the other test antioxidants (2 fold). Presumably, it is attributed to tethering and arraying of four impacted tyrosol units, which make a synergistic effect in interactions with radicals for creating effective radical scavenging activity. This method is in debt of synergistic effect, tethering and arraying of single units in the cluster structure.

Abstract:

Background & Aims of the Study: Chromium is widely detected in surface waters and underground waters, which usually appear as Cr(VI), and Cr(III), at sites associated with industrial activities. Cr(VI), in effluent streams with a high level of mobility and notorious mutagenic and carcinogenic toxicity; thus Cr(III) does not have much mobility in soil. So, converting it into less harmful species could be beneficial. Materials & Methods: Cr(VI) photocatalytic reduction in aqueous media was analyzed using desperately low dosages of nanoparticles of commercial titania. A directly imposed irradiation photoreactor equipped with a supersonic source was applied. The optimization of the reduction process was done using the central composite design (CCD) experimental. The residual concentration of Cr(VI) ion was determined by colorimetrically method. In addition, the impact of other factors, including water matrix and HOLE SCAVENGERs, also reduction kinetics were studied. Results: A quadratic equation for reduction efficiency was proposed, and the adequacy of it was evaluated by a variety of statistical methods. A maximum of 80. 6% reduction in aqueous samples containing an initial concentration of Cr(VI) within the investigated optimum operating condition (TiO2 dose of 33 mg/L; pH of 2. 5, T=35 ° C and t=120 min) was obtained. Results indicate that UV irradiation alone is an acceptable method for Cr(VI) reduction maybe due to H2O2 photolytic generation. The results show Cr(VI) photoreduction was greatly enhanced by about 88. 2% when NO3 − was used in comparison with SO4 2− anion. The photoreduction enhancements with the SCAVENGERs are appeared in the following order ethylene glycol > formic acid > citric acid with relevant. Maximum reduction of 96. 5% for Cr(VI) was obtained in the presence of ethylene glycol HOLE SCAVENGER. The results indicated that the process rate can be presented with a pseudo-first-order kinetic model. Conclusion: The results showed, the CCD design was approximately adequate in Cr(VI) reduction, so it can be a suitable option for water quality improvement. The addition of inorganic or organic species can act as scavenging hydroxyl radicals-which are photo-generated-and valanceband HOLEs that are on the photocatalysts of the semiconductor, and consistently, enhance the photocatalytic reduction of Cr(VI) ion.

Abstract:

In this paper, the effect of surface curvature on calibration coefficients of the HOLE-Drilling method has been studied. Firstly, an FE simulation of the drilling process has been modeled for a flat surface. Then, the simulation has been implemented on a cylinder with different diameters and the calibration coefficients have been extracted. In all analyses, the stain-gauge rosette and HOLE diameter remain constant and mesh removal in the drilling simulation was achieved in eight increments. The comparison of simulation results and standard published calibration coefficients data for a flat surface show an acceptable error equal to 2.8 variation of errors between 0.6 to 6.2.
